INTERVENTION
Intervention services may focus on one or more of the following areas:
READING:
Decoding and reading comprehension. Our reading specialists are trained in a variety of reading decoding methods
including: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, and Project Read.
WRITING: Spelling,
mechanics, sentence structure, and written expression. Written language intervention includes a focus on reading
comprehension to foster reading-writing connections.
EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING
and STUDY SKILLS: strategies to support planning, organization, memory, study skills, time management,
listening comprehension, note taking -- anything that can get in the way of day-to-day academic success.
MATHEMATICS: Calculation
and problem solving.
SPEECH-LANGUAGE:
supports the development of all facets of language, including listening/language processing, vocabulary knowledge and retrieval,
verbal memory, spoken language formulation, social pragmatics, pre-reading/spelling, and speech articulation abilities.
Our focus is on speech and language skills necessary for literacy learning as well as academic and social success. Individual
and/or small group available.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:
focus on the development of motor abilities that underlie handwriting and and day-to-day performance with tasks requiring
motor strength, dexterity, and coordination as well as perceptual processing. Our focus is on functional skills,
such as handwriting, bike riding, bilateral coordination, eye-hand coordination for drawing, visual memory, and other perceptual
or motor abilities.
PARENT EDUCATION
Given our commitment to working with whole families, we offer evening classes to help parents understand various learning
challenges their children face, how they can help their children use new strategies at home, and how to work with schools

EVALUATION
SPEECH-LANGUAGE:
assessment of oral communication skills, including listening/language processing, vocabulary knowledge and retrieval, verbal
memory, spoken language formulation, social pragmatics, pre-reading/spelling, and speech articulation abilities. Evaluations
are designed to reveal students' linguistic strengths and areas of need as well as help parents and educators understand
how these strengths and needs affect performance in school.
ACADEMIC (READING,
WRITING, MATH): assessment of achievement in pre-reading skills (phonemic awareness and orthography),
reading (decoding and comprehension), writing (spelling and written expression), and mathematics (computation and problem
solving). Our goal is to identify the level at which students are performing and to assist parents and schools with using
instruction and intervention approaches that are well suited students' learning styles and needs.
OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPY: assessment of fine motor foundations related to handwriting and day-to-day performance
with tasks requiring motor strength, dexterity, and coordination as well as perceptual processing. Our goal is to identify
students' day-to-day performance with fine and gross motor tasks and to assist parents and teachers with supporting students'
motor skills at home and at school.
COMBINATION: Where appropriate, we see students for
two different types of evaluations and integrate all of the test results to get a more global understanding of strengths and
areas of need.
CONSULTATION
SCHOOL/TEACHER CONSULTATION: collaboration
with teachers to design effective supports, modifications, and accommodations and to use effective instructional
strategies with students in the classroom.
SCHOOL PROGRAM OBSERVATIONS: designed to assist
teachers with developing individualized instruction that is tailored to students' needs.
PARENT CONSULTATION AND SUPPORT: education and consultation to assist parents with understanding
their children's learning strengths and needs, seek appropriate support services, and learn how to support their child's
success at home.
